Frequently referred to as the Ballet Russes collection, this wasn't Saint Laurent's own designation for his Fall 1976 work. Diana Vreeland just called it the "Russian" collection, which was probably a better description because it had influences of everything from Cossacks to, yes, the Ballet Russes. One of its more wearable pieces, a gorgeous grey wool flannel jacket with black twill trim and a row of petite black button and loop closures. Wide, slightly abbreviated sleeves and a lining of unctuous black silk satin, the illustration is Yves' own sketch, included in Vreeland's 1983 YSL retrospective at the Met. Gorgeous with everything from a Rive Gauche dirndl to jeans. Bust up to 38", shoulder to shoulder 16", outer sleeve 22" and lgnth 28". Excellent condition. $510.00 |
