The waspie is the more modern, kinder, cousin of the corset. You know the scene, Scarlett O'Hara is having her corset tied by Mammy, who is telling her to "Just hold on... and suck in." We see at least two things wrong with this scene; the dependence on someone else to get dressed and the crippling self-mutilation of a corset. You want a little control but do you really want to permanently alter the shape of your body?
