1960s Emanuel Ungaro Wool Dress with Jacket

spotlight The atelier at which you apprentice will have a great influence on your work as a designer. Take Courreges, who studied with Balenciaga for years. While Courreges and Balenciaga had distinctly different voices, the perfection with which Andre crafted his clothing was clearly of the Balenciaga school of dressmaking. Then you have Emanuel Ungaro, who studied with Courreges and the youthful energy in Ungaro's work is very Courreges but Ungaro was more adventurous with pattern and color - some of his 60's pieces are way funkier than Courreges. Dare we say "better"? This won't last much longer as young designers don't work side by side wih the masters much - they are suddenly appointed Creative Director but the Ungaro label still has magnificent cache under the direction of Giambattista Valli. An exuberant suit of dotted wool in brown, rust and teal with matte orange buttons. A short-sleeved dress with contrasting bodice, lined in brown silk crepe de chine and edged in brown cotton webbing. Over the slightly curved dress is a fabulous jacket, with a low belt that buttons below the navel, and curved applique. Made for his Parallele collection, this has an ethnic vibe without being trendy or over-the-top. Bust measures 38". shoulder to shoulder 16.5" and length 37.5". Jacket has a 22" outer sleeve and is 22.5" long. Both are in excellent condition. $695.00
