1980s Rifat Ozbek Sequin Applique Suit

spotlight Turkish-born Rifat Ozbek employs traditional cultural symbols (Islamic and others) into his clothing in a lighthearted sort of way. He sent models down the runway in embroidered sheer chiffon bhurka, crossing Indian and Middle Eastern culture without a hitch. His crepe cocktail suits embellished with all sorts of references to mysterious symbols like the hand of Fatima and the evil eye. And the meaning of the hand of Fatima couldn't be more relevant than it is right now, espousing patience, love and understanding. Fatima was making halvah one day when she caught a glimpse of her husband's mistress and was so upset over the discovery of infidelity that she put her own hand in the scalding pot and stirred the candy with her bare flesh, not even feeling it because she was so zoned out. A cropped viscose jacket with sequinned hands, hearts, eyes and lips surrounded by curling gold thread and dotted allover with silver star sequins in all sizes like the night sky. Paired with a matching high-waisted curvy skirt, we love this with a Narciso Rodriguez matte jersey tank in pink and the most viciously high Christian Dior stilettos. Lined in black crepe, the bust measures 34", shoulder to shoulder 16", outer sleeve 24" and length 17.5". Skirt has a 26" waist, 34" hips and is 23.5" long. Both are in excellent condition. $805.00
