1990s Martin Margiela High-Top Tabi Sneakers

iconic tabi When Margiela first incorporated the tabi shoe into his 1989 collection, it was an immediate love it or hate it kind of thing. Women who love Lilly Pulitzer were offended - said they look like hooves. How culturally ignorant - Margiela didn't invent the tabi, the Japanese did but he did make it chic AF. Others who leaned toward Vivienne Westwood -had- to have them. They came in topless, flat, wedge, high boots and when the 6 line launched in 1998, they came in sneakers. Deep teal canvas with intentionally unfinished edges, the laces are extra long to wrap or leave in big, sloppy bows. Italian size 39 and in excellent condition. $495.00
