1950s Claire McCardell Dotted Cotton Dress

women can relate to claire Knowing good vintage is akin to being a private investigator. Every time you walk into a clothing store that deals in modern stuff, you can pick out every last influence. Most young women don't even think about how it used to be. What wearing a Norell wool coat felt like. They think it's all about machine-washable and stretch. They can't fathom dresses and skirts didn't have pockets a million years ago (make that forty for those of us old enough to have been there). Inconceivable that you couldn't use the pockets on your jacket because you would distort the fabric or that a shoulder bag could literally ruin your clothes. They - we - all have Claire McCardell to thank for the subtle conveniences that are an absolute standard today. Thank you Claire! A beautiful deep butter yellow polished cotton dress with dark pink dots - classic, modern and adorable without being cloying. Claire believed that zippers in the back made a woman dependent on someone else to get dressed so she did away with them. Instead you will find a hidden side zip or her fantastic visible hook and eye closures that are oh so McCardell. Shawl collar, V neckline to match the V at the nape of the neck and brass closures in front, the sleeves are fitted to right above the crease of the elbow. Fastens with a row of distinctly McCardell brass hook and eye closures. Gorgeous with a Fleet Ilya corset belt and flat sandals, yes it has pockets on both sides so you don't even need a bag. Made for Townley, the bust measures 34", shoulder to shoulder 15.5", outer sleeve 10", waist 25" and total length 44". Excellent condition with the exception of two small tea-hued stains in the hem folds. sold
