1970s Bill Blass Sequin Halter Evening Gown

when subtlety is not on your agenda "Vintage" is a chronological definition and has zero to do with style. How could "vintage" describe a style? That's just stupid yet modern companies do it all the time. Vintage clothing runs the gamut from Victorian modesty to Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren's version of homemade punk but nothing makes a sexy and dramatic point like a 1970's evening gown. The world was used to the benefits of the birth control pill by then and cocaine was freely available so the sexual revolution of the 60s turned into the wanton orgy of the 70s. Jim Morrison may have gotten a few girls to get on their knees but it was nothing compared to what was going on in the private rooms at Studio 54. While we're certainly not telling you to run out and score an eightball to put in your Jamin Puech cocktail bag tonight, we're also not above drinking too much gin and flashing the hot waiters at your cousin's b-o-r-i-n-g wedding. And how much easier could it be then pulling the halter straps of your sequin Bill Blass gown to the side and showing the guys your tan lines, huh? It doesn't have to be a bad copy of "Girls Gone Wild" either - you can do it much more tastefully. Well, if exposing yourself just doesn't sound all that appealing to you, a dress that is stunning covering everything is always fabulous too. Colorblocked silk in dusty rose, steely grape and taupe silk crepe is completely overlaid with transparent sequins. Backless and not overly low in front, we love this with pale blue satin Alain Tondowski pumps and a small blue satin Chanel clutch. Backd in nude silk crepe de chine for modesty, the bust measures 32" to 35", waist 24", hips up to 36" and length 51". Excellent condition. $945.00
