Mountain Artisans was a simple collective of West Virginian quilters headed by designer Dorothy Weatherford. These native quilters worked their butts off to make a hobby a lucrative source to sustain the local community. Everyone from Donald Brooks to Oscar de la Renta bought their fabrics and they also designed their own line of clothing, winning them the coveted Coty. Unconventional color combinations and innovative use of fabrics that may have only been previously used as trim, Mountain Artisans' clothing has serious heart and soul. A patchwork velvet halter dress that is pieced in wide waves with black cotton thread. Some black and white bands, some rich red mandalian prints and large expanses of black and brown, this is lined in silk crepe de chine. Slit to the knee on both sides, it has a Nehru collar and cut-in armholes. Bust measures 34", hips 36" and length 58". Excellent condition. $565.00 |
