Local Heroes

Remember the pictures of Renee Zellweger in that gorgeous vintage yellow Jean Desses gown from the Golden Globes two years ago? Or the famous vintage Valentino Julia Roberts wore to collect her Oscar for Erin Brockovich? Or how about pictures of gorgeous model Stephanie Seymour wearing vintage Balenciaga or Alaia to watch her husband's polo matches? Did you ever wonder where these ladies found such treasures? The best-kept secret address (apparently only in St. Louis) for vintage designer wear is right in the heart of University City.
Ladies, are you listening? enokiworld is one of the top vintage resources - not just in the U.S., but the world. Transplanted New Yorker Madeline Meyerowitz started the business out of frustration over not being able to find hip, vintage clothing locally. Seeing the situation here. it was a good bet that other cities outside the N.Y./L.A. sphere had the same trouble. So enokiworld was born and "world" is an apt description.
It's not a store exactly. It's a web site, www.enokiworld.com, featuring delightful images and hilarious content that make even browsing it a joy. Log on and view the vast inventory that features everything from Pucci, Gucci, Givenchy, Alaia, Courreges, Pierre Cardin, Ossie Clark and Halston and the inventors of classic American sportswear Claire McCardell and Bonnie Cashin. Once you see an image you like, you may make an appoitment to see it in person, or they will send it to you to try on in the privacy of your own home. For serious fashion addicts and lovers of fashion history it is a must see!
For those of you who have already worn these designers and may have a few stowed away, it's a good way to clean out your closet and make a little pocket change (they must be in mint condition though). We have not been so excited about something since we learned that leg warmers were making a comeback this season! it's a brilliant alternative for all who lament not being able to find something unique and chic to wear, and you'll have the comfort of knowing there won't be anyone else in the same outfit. You can also find fabulous goodies on its newest website www.enokiland.com which features new designer duds.
As In Style and Vogue have already discovered enokiworld, we suggest you FLY - not walk - to your computer as fast as those stilettos will take you.
